Munuki School

In the Munuki School children receive a basic education and learn about concepts of hygiene, efficient water consumption, and sustainable agriculture.

Sudan has been in constant civil war, leaving many refugees and orphans across the country. The country is very poor and resources are not used effectively, so many families cannot afford education for their children. Juba, in southern Sudan, has no infrastructure system and the government currently only invests in streets. Water, electricity, schools, and humanitarian aid are not a priority of the government.

To give children the opportunity to go to school, the New Apostolic Church (NAC) has built the Munuki School in a suburb of Juba, Southern Sudan. The school started with pre-school and elementary education, and wants to expand to secondary education in the future. Besides the standard school curriculum, the children will learn about hygiene, AIDS, water resourcing, and agriculture. In addition the New Apostoliv Church has built a well in the village, which provides about 22,000 people with fresh water.

Classes in the Munuki School started running in April 2010 with 160 students in pre-school and primary class. This more than exceeded the expected 80 students and showed the large need for education in the region. The plan is to extend the school up to 8th grade in 2012 for a total of 400 students.

We are partnering with the New Apostolic Church, the third-largest Christian denomination, which is responsible for the project´s operation and coordination, mainly through unpaid volunteers. However, the school is led irrespective of religious affiliation/denomination and is open to children from all religious backgrounds.
